Description

Whitney Houston has passed away at the age of 48. The R&B songbird was reportedly found in a Beverly Hills, California, hotel room, and despite attempts to resuscitate her, she was pronounced dead at 3:55 PM local time on January 11, 2012. The cause of death was not immediately known.

The singer and actress sold more than 170 million albums, singles, and videos, and won numerous awards and set numerous records in her decades-long career; she was the only artist to chart seven consecutive “Billboard” number one singles, and her huge hit “I Will Always Love You” was the best-selling single by a female artist of all time. The star of blockbuster movies like “The Bodyguard” and “Waiting to Exhale” was set to appear in the movie “Sparkle” at the time of her death.

With Whitney Houston’s death, the world has lost a tremendous talent with soaring vocals beyond compare. As Mariah Carey said on Twitter, "She will never be forgotten as one of the greatest voices to ever grace the earth."

Rest in peace, Whitney—we will never forget your amazing talent and all the joy you brought music fans across the globe through a decades-long career.
