Selena Gomez Just Dethroned Her BFF Taylor Swift In This Ranking

8 March 2016
Last we took stock of Instagram’s power rankings, Taylor Swift and Kim Kardashian were duking it out for the title of most-followed user. Since then, however, a new threat stealthily slipped past both Tay and Kim to snatch the crown: Taylor’s own longtime bestie Selena Gomez.

Over the weekend, Sel dethroned her BFF as the new reigning queen, boasting 69.6 million followers as of Tuesday afternoon. Taylor trails closely behind with 69.2 million, while Kim stands strong in the third-place slot with 63.7 million. Rounding out the top five most popular users are Ariana Grande with 63.2 million and Beyonce with 63 million. (To put all of those numbers in perspective, each of those five stars now has more Instagram followers than the entire population of Italy. Crazy but true!)

One scroll through Selena’s ‘gram is all the proof you need while she’s worthy of the throne. From her adorable throwback pic with Barney to her #relatable McDonalds snacking session, she gives fans unique access into her whirlwind life. Most recently, she shared a slew of snaps from Paris Fashion Week, where she dazzled in a revolving wardrobe of designer garb and expertly weaved through paparazzi on her way to high-fashion events. Totally casual.

Plus, Taylor makes frequent appearances on Sel’s Instagram, so really, this is a victory for both of them. No bad blood here, folks.

I don't know life without you Taylor. Happy birthday!
