A special one-hour version of MTV VIDEO MUSIC AID JAPAN will air on MTV channels worldwide to over 550 million homes as an installment of MTV’s weekly live music series, MTV WORLD STAGE.
“This decision was a simple one – shift the focus to aid and recovery, and use music to inspire and activate our viewers to help the Japanese Red Cross,” said Indra Suharjono, Executive Vice President and Managing Director, VIMN North & Southeast Asia.
Hosted by Japanese pop sensation AKB48 and featuring live performances from international, regional and Japanese artists, the staging of MTV VIDEO MUSIC AID JAPAN will be the culmination of MTV Japan’s MUSIC OF HOPE campaign, the channel’s multiplatform response to the March 11 earthquake and tsunami. MTV VIDEO MUSIC AID JAPAN will be held at Makuhari Messe in Chiba Prefecture.
Shigeo Numakura, Senior Vice President and Managing Director, MTV Networks Japan, said, “People around the world are hoping that Japan will recover from this disaster quickly. Working closely with the music industry as well as our official partners, MTV Japan is striving to make MUSIC OF HOPE and MTV VIDEO MUSIC AID JAPAN television events that use music to encourage rebuilding efforts."
