Korea's Loona, China's Loura Lou and Japan's Little Glee Monster score wins at their first EMA

5 November 2018

It was the Ls who got the Ws in the 2018 MTV EMA.

Loura Lou took home the award for Best Greater China Act, Little Glee Monster won Best Japan Act, and girl group Loona got the nod for Best Korea Act—and all of them are first-time nominees, to boot! (And here in Southeast Asia, ICYMI, it was Malaysian hip hop powerhouse Joe Flizzow who took home the accolade.)

Loura Lou – Best Greater China Act

Also well-known as an actor in some of China's most-watched TV shows, Loura Lou has proven to be an amazing talent on the mic as well. Her voice powers some of the most popular ballads on China's airwaves today, and her music videos tend to show off her flair for the dramatic.

Check out her video for "Mirage" to see what we're talking about:

Little Glee Monster – Best Japan Act

The first thing you'll notice about Little Glee Monster's music is how their voices take centre stage on nearly every track. The five-member girl group isn't afraid to let their vocals do the talking, going almost a-capella for stretches on their hit single, "Sekai Ha Anatani Waraikaketeiru".

Their video for "My Brand New Day" shows that even with full backing melodies, it's their vocal harmonies that stand out most:

Loona – Best Korea Act

Loona (or, if you're a true Stan, LOOΠΔ) are one of the most sudden successes in K-Pop, but it shouldn't have come as a surprise. Although they launched their debut EP as a full ensemble just three months ago, the group's members have been releasing singles since 2016. That only goes to show the insane amount of talent the twelve-member strong group has on its roster.

Listen to what they all sound like together on the video for their poppin' track, "favOriTe":

Congratulations to all three of these MTV EMA winners! The fact that Loura Lou, Little Glee Monster, and Loona all scored big wins at their first-ever appearances at the EMA only goes to show that there's an incredible amount of talent in Asia. Here's to hearing even more from them—and maybe even back-to-back wins next year!
