Decked in Canadian-made apparel and accessories as per her Canadian roots, Nelly shared that listeners can expect “a super pop experience” as “the album is incredibly positive, super energetic, and eclectic and has a really high vibration and a spiritual energy to it.”
On her favourite songs on the album, “Spirit Indestructible” and “High Life”, Nelly explained, “‘High Life’ is about the difference between looking at success as a destination or a journey. I learned over the last few years that real success is about balance in life and making time for everything important. It’s a fun poppy track with a deeper type of message.”
Nelly considers herself a “veteran” after 12 years in the industry and is flattered that younger artists are fans of her music. When asked if she would want to work with any of them, Nelly made mention of Katy Perry, saying she respects Katy as a songwriter who has a really good heart, fellow Canadian Justin Bieber and Drake.
She went on to talk about the challenges in the music industry and what motivates her to keep going: “It’s daunting out in the music scene but yet it’s incredible because there’s a constant source of inspiration. I fit in more now than I did in year 2000 because it is so eclectic. The challenge would probably be that there is no limit to online marketing because it’s free so it’s a matter of balancing and prioritizing how you want to market yourself.”
With the release of The Spirit Indestructible, Nelly is currently more concerned with her artistic accomplishment rather than commercial success and ensuring that following her creative impulses will end up in good places.
