Taking Hearts with The Sam Willows

30 October 2015
It’s finally HERE!

Singapore’s pop scene darlings, The Sam Willows just dropped their highly-anticipated debut album, Take Heart, on Friday, October. 30th.

The album, which features 8 new tracks, including chart-topping singles ‘Take Heart’ and ‘For Love’, was recorded and produced entirely in Sweden together with Swedish producer Harry Sommerdahl (The Wanted and Pussycat Dolls). The album plays to an eclectic mix of Pop, Electronica and R’nB, whilst still retaining the band’s trademark Country-Folk sound.

The quartet, made up of siblings Benjamin and Narelle Kheng, and friends Sandra Riley Tang and Jon Chua, recently marked their 3rd anniversary but that isn’t the only thing the band has to celebrate about.

Their single, ‘Take Heart’ reached #1 across Asia charts from iTunes, Spotify to CHR radio station 987FM, making them the first local act to hold the record.

So, how did the The Sam Willows react after hearing news about their triumph? Not by throwing a raging party that’s for sure.

“We were like ‘yay!’ and then we worked some more,” Benjamin Kheng laughed.

His sister and the band’s bassist, Narelle, described the moment as a special milestone that’s shared between not only the members but also with their Sony Music family. Watch our chat with the band below as we quizzed them about what went into making Take Heart, snowball fights in Sweden and Instagram shenanigans.

Best Friends Challenge!

The Sam Willows are such a tight-knit band but how well do they really know each other? We put the quartet’s friendship to the test as they grilled each other on celebrity crushes and guilty pleasures.

Love Challenge

As the theme of Take Heart is mainly centred on love, we asked each member to share what “love” means to them. And yes, one answer includes scooping up dog poop.

Fallen in love with The Sam Willows yet? Their debut album Take Heart is now available at all digital music stores and music retailers; and for a limited period, at Starbucks and Topshop outlets island-wide.
