The original run of Jersey Shore was an immediate success, bringing a group of fun, outrageous and irreverent Italian-Americans in New Jersey to our TV screens every week. While it's a high bar to match the first few seasons, it looks like Jersey Shore: Family Vacation is about to reach that easily. But take a look at the title and you know you're in for a wholly different adventure.
Nine years later, the main cast of Jersey Shore are coming back into our lives with a renewed sense of purpose — and, for many of them, with kids. Here's what's different about our favourite gang of guidos.
Nicole 'Snooki' Polizzi
Arugably the most recognizable star of the bunch, Snooki is now a responsible mother of two at age 30. And as filming for Family Vacation commenced, it was clear she wasn't able to simply drop her kids for a routine filming schedule.
"Obviously, I was excited to be with the roomies and have fun and go out and rage, because I never rage anymore, I'm a 24/7 mom," she tells PEOPLE. "But I missed [my kids] the night I got there. 'Cause I co-sleep with my kids, so not sleeping with them, I had mom guilt 24/7."
The charismatic party animal Vinny, now 30, favours well-rounded diets over well-rounded shots, and the woman in his life is a three-year-old putbull mix named Tita. His dog is featured heavily on his Instagram — when he's not showing off his serious set of abs, that is.
"She's my best friend, I say she's my girlfriend. She's better than any girlfriend that you'll find," he explained to US Magazine about Tita. "She sleeps with me every night. She calms me down when I need it. Always, unconditional love."
Mike 'The Situation' Sorrentino
The Situation might have still retained his brash and cheeky charm at 35, but he's taken serious steps to curb some longstanding habits — most of which were on full display in the original show.
Re-learning "how to have fun sober", The Situation has now been alcohol-free for more than two years, committing himself to sobriety and a longterm relationship with his college sweetheart. Fellow castmember Jenni 'JWOWW Farley calls him 'The Inspiration' now, compared to his reckless freewheeling past, although Sorrentino is still facing possible jailtime.
Jenni "JWOWW" Farley
The motherly Farley stood her ground as the responsible one of the group — but not without her own fair share of heavy partying. She just knows how to handle it much better than her co-stars.
Farley co-starred in a Jersey Shore spin-off titled Snooki & Jwoww, and like her bestie, she also takes care of two beautiful children. If you're ever in need of advice, Farley is the go-to gal — and she spills some enormously helpful tips you'd want to bookmark here.
Paul "DJ Pauly D" Delvecchio
The former star of The Pauly D Project flexed his DJ skills in his earlier years, and now he's a resident at the luxurious Harrah's Las Vegas, pulling in a hefty income from that, along with various business ventures.
The only thing missing? Someone to share his success with. "I'm looking for someone to share my life with now," the single DJ shares with US Magazine. "Sometimes you have to bring home the wrong ones to find the right one."
Deena Nicole Cortese
Deena's marriage last October to longtime boyfriend Christopher Buckner was a story on its own, due in part to a mini-reunion with her Jersey Shore castmates.
On her part, she's remained relatively modest under the spotlight, working as a dog trainer, but Family Vacation will delve deeper into how the 31-year-old has fared over the years. She seems to be a fan favourite IRL — she shared recently how a fan once got so excited and drunk when meeting her, they peed while hugging her.
The "Famously Single" cast member was a curious addition to the pack, with his tumultuous relationship with former member Sammi "Sweetheart" Giancola taking up prime drama real estate in early episodes.
Although not so chummy with his fellow cast members, Ronnie seemed a popular choice to return for Family Vacation, and his personal life seemed ripe for this season's stories — his daughter was born days before the season premiere, while the relationship with his baby momma flows unsteadily. This is where drama is born, folks.
