Taylor Swift Takes A Blistering Sub Shot At Kanye West During Album Of The Year Speech

17 February 2016
Taylor Swift showed all the emotions you’d expect from a Grammy win — surprise, excitement, gratitude — during her Album of the Year acceptance speech for 1989 on Monday night. But she also used the moment to express some subtle hostility, sending a shot at Kanye West.

“As the first woman to win Album of the Year at the Grammys twice, I will say to all of the young women out there, there are going to be people along the way who will try to undercut your success, or take credit for your accomplishments or your fame,” she said, referencing a lyric ’Ye rapped on the recently-released “Famous.”

“But if you just focus on the work and you don’t let those people sidetrack you, someday, when you get to where you’re going, you’ll look around you’ll know it was you and the people who love you that put you there, and that will be the greatest feeling in the world.”

The line in question comes from Kanye’s new album, The Life of Pablo, which was released over the weekend: “For all my Southside n—s that know me best / I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex / Why? I made that bitch famous,” he raps.

Taylor’s brother responded, with an Instagram post, almost immediately after the song premiered on Thursday, by throwing his Yeezys in the trash. But Taylor waited for a bigger stage (The singer, by the way, beat out Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp a Butterfly, The Weeknd’s Beauty Behind the Madness, Chris Stapleton’s Traveller and Alabama Shakes’ Sound & Color for the win).

Kanye Twitter Watch Alert is currently on high.
