R3hab talks new album, League of Legends and pre-gig rituals!

6 October 2017
R3HAB has finally just dropped his very first album, Trouble, with 17 fist-pumping tracks showcasing all his incredibly creative ideas and versatility as a producer! (Yaaaaas! It's right about time!)

R3hab will also be popping by Jakarta, Indonesia at the Djakarta Warehouse Project in December – so if you haven't got your tix, get 'em quick if you wanna rave with R3hab and meet him in the flesh!

His debut album is an amazing work of art tbh. Listen!

We got R3hab to spill the beans on his latest album, and some really fun facts about him you may or may not know about – like he's a legit League of Legends (LoL) fanatic! Read!

Vivian Eu: You've just released your album! What's special about this one?

It is the first album I've ever released so that makes it super special for me. It's been an amazing learning process and it has helped me grow as a person and as an artist.

How would you describe your music in 3 words, and why?

I would say I personally find my music fresh, playful but also very grown-up in a way. I really like to find a balance between being serious and having fun.

Tell us ONE THING we may not know about you!

I love video games! League of Legends is one of my favorites.

Share with us your process of creating new music! And how do you counter the most dreaded 'writer's block'?

I experience the process of creating music differently with every song. It does have some similarities of course, but I really have a very personal approach to everything I create. I actually look for inspiration in everything and I am always listening to all kinds of different genres in music.

What was the first instrument you got your hands on as a child?

That was the piano. I love playing the piano.

Share a crazy or touching thing a fan has done to you.

They have given me the most amazing gifts and so much love, some I know personally and I love meeting them before or after shows. To be honest, the most touching thing is that the fans all together are supporting me on this journey of my debut album and the different styles of music that I have made. It is amazing to know that so many great people have your back and let you be creative and try all these new things.

You've travelled the world and have performed in so many countries! Any country you wish to DJ in but have yet to do so?

I would love to play in the Seychelles, that's definitely a bucket-list.

Any unusual hobbies or pasttimes that you enjoy doing when you're away from the decks?

I love kickboxing and jujitsu. So I can really enjoy a good training, as it's not just good for me physically but also clears my head and helps me focus.

Any pre-gig rituals?

I like to nap for an hour of two to be able to refuel my energy and give it my all during the show.

If you could choose just ONE food to eat your WHOLE LIFE, which would it be?

Vegetables, I love everything green.

What's one thing on your bucket list you've yet to do?

Release a second album ;-)

We all know that the top DJs in the world are from the Netherlands, so let's answer this question once and for all: WHY ARE DUTCH DJs LIKE YOURSELF SO GOOD?! (Spill those secrets!)

I think it has something to do with the fact that we inspire each other. Dj'ing and producing is a well known industry in the Netherlands so maybe it is more clear to young people that they can practice and explore that talent too.

Ahh~ So if you aspire to be a DJ just like R3hab, now you know how. It takes lotsa dedication and practice so if you think it's easy – NOPE. *Props to you guys!* For us all who simply love enjoying good party anthems and festival vibes, here are the details of the upcoming gig of R3hab at Djakarta Warehouse Project:

Venue: JiExpo Kemayoran, Jakarta, Indonesia
Date: 15 & 16 December 2017
