Adele Is 50 Years Old In Her New Song ‘When We Were Young’

18 November 2015
Hello? It’s me, 50-year-old Adele, singing to you from a party in the future, reminiscing about the good ol’ days.

The U.K. singer is here with another song from her upcoming third album, 25. “When We Were Young” was co-written with Tobias Jesso Jr. and in the video, released Tuesday (Nov. 17), we see Adele performing it at The Church Studios in London.

The track is signature Adele — a ballad, slow and melancholic, where she sings about love lost and friendships forgotten.

“It was based on us being older, and being at a party at this house, and seeing everyone that you’ve ever fallen out with, everyone that you’ve ever loved, everyone that you’ve never loved, and stuff like that, where you can’t find the time to be in each other lives,” Adele told Sirius XM on Monday. “And you’re all thrown together at this party when you’re like 50, and it doesn’t matter and you have so much fun and you feel like you’re 15 again. So that’s the vibe of it really.”

And, just as this song would lead you to believe, Adele has said that 25 is more about reconciling with people in her past.

“My last record was a break-up record and if I had to label this one I would call it a make-up record. I’m making up with myself. Making up for lost time,” she wrote in October. “Making up for everything I ever did and never did. But I haven’t got time to hold on to the crumbs of my past like I used to. What’s done is done.”
