5SOS’s ‘Jet Black Heart’ Video Proves That I Am You, And You Are Me, And, Oh, God, The World Is F–ked Up And Beautiful

16 December 2015
5 Seconds of Summer have always claimed to be more than a band. They’re representatives for a generation of outcasts who would rather be themselves than conform to what others want them to be. They call it The New Broken Scene.

So when it came time to make the video for fan-favorite track “Jet Black Heart,” the band wanted to include all the people who usually feel left out — those who have maybe found community in 5SOS when the world around them looked down at them. The result? A super-serious video that zooms in on a few individual fans, making the visuals more real and down to earth than, say, “Good Girls.”

Pair the somber aesthetic with the best chorus of 2015, and you’ll be feeling and questioning everything. Take a step back, slow it down, watch “Jet Black Heart” and realize that we’re more similar than we think.
