All these Kpop groups up for 2017 MTV EMA 'Best Korea Act' should totally win and here's why!

1 November 2017
The end of the year is awards season time for Kpop groups, so it's time to activate all your friends to vote for your bias!

Voting for the 2017 MTV EMA is now open and you better get voting, because the winners are solely determined by the number of fan votes.

This year, the nominees for the Best Korea Act are GFriend, Highlight, Mamamoo, Seventeen and Wanna One! Most of this year's nominees are rising stars, fast gaining international recognition, which is why we couldn't be prouder of them! Here's why we think each Kpop act deserves to win (in alphabetical order).

GFriend

They were nominated last year, so it seems they're still a solid contender for the Best Korean Act this year! Gfriend have managed to gather quite a large fanbase, even though – and this might come as a surprise –they haven't even had a solo concert yet! That hasn't stopped them from scooping up the wins at music shows and being a regular at festivals. All these girls need is a win, and they might even be able to hold a tour in the near future! Listen to their song that got them their first music show win, Rough.

Highlight

Basically Beast, sans one member. Highlight actually debuted in 2009, but underwent a name change when they all left their agency and decided to continue as a group! Their sound has changed slightly from Beast's, to one happier and more upbeat that we still love. All the songs on Highlight's first EP were written by the boys themselves, so you can expect these songs to really express their feelings. Their title song, Plz Don't Be Sad, is basically telling fans to not be sad (that they changed their name), and to always be happy and energetic. Well, if oppa said so.

Mamamoo

Mamamoo's groovy and carefree throwback style is a refreshing change from the girly bubble-pop saturating the airwaves. Expect to hear funk, soul, old-school hip hop, jazz, and even a pop-arcade song for a video game! Mamamoo's versatility as a group is not just testament to their talent, but also straight-up fun – you'll never know what to expect next!

Seventeen

Seventeen doesn't refer to the number of members in the group; it's actually the median age of the members when they debuted! Are you feeling old yet? The boys in Seventeen are also divided into three sub-units; the performance group, hip hop group and vocal group. Seventeen is also another self-producing idol group (most Kpop groups don't write their own material). Not only are their songs written and produced by the members, but the choreography is also by the members. Seventeen have taken being an all-rounded idol group to the next level!

Wanna One

All groups, Kpop or not, have expiry dates (cue: sad face). Usually we won't know when they'll end up fading away, but Wanna One already has a set expiry date. All the group's boys are from different entertainment agencies, and are in a temporary boy band group from now until the end of 2018. So we've got just over a year left to appreciate these boys as one group? That's not enough! And even though they managed to attract a significant fanbase through Produce 101, they are not resting on their laurels as their new singles, Burn It Up and Energetic, are the talk of the Kpop town!
