Whether he's premiering new singles on the surface of Mars or unveiling iPhone accessories that somehow cost more than $300, there's no denying that Black Eyed Peas mastermind will.i.am has a flair for the dramatic.
So it should come as no surprise that when MTV News caught up with him in Washington, D.C. — and asked him for an update on his long-in-the-works #willpower album — he went above and beyond the call of duty ... dismissing several false track listings that have been circulating via, of all things, a rap.
"A lot of those track lists are hocus-pocus bogus, but I remain focused. But I'm not going to smoke this," he, uh, rapped, before abruptly switching back to more traditional means of communication. "A lot of those things were fans creating track lists ... but I think an album is a song [then] four or five months later another song, and then a couple months later another song. I wanted to change the cycle and the process of putting out songs as it relates to an album, whatever that is nowadays."
And in keeping with that strategy, will still doesn't have an exact release date for the album — "This record will be out before the Easter Bunny comes hoppin,'" he said — and really, he's in no hurry to settle on one. After all, his latest single, the Britney Spears-enhanced "Scream & Shout," is doing quite well on its own ... so who needs an album?
" 'Scream & Shout' is No. 1 in, like, 53 countries, and I'm really proud of that, because I've been doing music for a minute now, and had huge success with my group, the Peas," he said. "And coming out with records when you're in a big, successful group that plays stadiums, that's scary to come out by yourself. And to have success at the tune I'm having it, is overwhelming and I'm so grateful."
