17 Celebs Who Need To Chill With Those Creepy Sheet Mask Selfies

23 March 2016
We’ve all been there. You’re scrolling through Instagram, minding your own business, only to encounter one of those sheet mask selfies from one of your favorite celebs. You’re caught off guard because just two seconds ago, you were looking at your friend’s cute new puppy playing in the yard, and next thing you know, you’re segueing to Hannibal Lecter from The Silence of the Lambs.

For a while, it seemed like this selfie trend had died down, but it looks like it’s slowly picking back up again. So, because I hate masks, and I’m tired of seeing celebs looking like they’re an extra in the horror film Eyes Without a Face — which I don’t recommend googling — I decided to rank their pics on the very scientific Hell-To-The-Nope scale.

1. Chrissy Teigen

“Scaring children,” the soon-to-be mom wrote on Instagram. Because it’s not an IN YO FACE closeup pic, I’m giving it a 6/10 on the Hell-To-The-Nope scale.

2. Justin Bieber

The Biebs’s smile may be saying, “Hey Girl,” but all I can hear him saying is Hannibal’s unsettling line, “Love your suit.” 8/10

3. Lady Gaga

The American Horror Story star’s face mask is toned down thanks to the big, fashionable shades. In fact, she’s kind of channeling Claude Rains in The Invisible Man. 3/10

4. James Franco

“I know something you don’t know. Wink wink.” That’s what I imagine Franco’s thinking in this pic. 7/10

5. Chris Pratt

If the entire cast of Jurassic World had just donned some of these sheet masks and ran at the dinos while waving their arms and shouting a bunch of mumbo jumbo, they probably would’ve won the battle way faster. Dinosaurs may be tough, but these damn sheet masks would bring even the Indominus rex to its knees. 9/10

6. Diane Kruger

“This is the stuff nightmares are made of !” You said it Diane, not us. 9/10

7. Lindsay Lohan

Thankfully, the limit does exist on the scariness factor for this face mask. 5/10

8. Adele

“I woke up like this!,” captioned Adele. Coincidentally, those’ll be the last words I hear before a sheet mask villain attacks me in the morning. 9/10

9. Ricky Martin

Where 👏 Are 👏 His 👏 Eyes?! 8/10

10. Kelly Osbourne

The face she’s making is the exact same one I make when I scroll past one of these cursed face mask pics. 7/10

11. Zelda Williams

“When your first day of filming is around the corner, but you also really need to figure out your Texas Chainsaw Massacre Halloween costume…,” Williams hilariously captioned. The wide-eyed look and caption combo makes me give this a 9/10. Rein it in, Zelda.

12. Sophie Turner

The Game of Thrones actress is far away, so this one isn’t very scary. Thank God. 1/10

13. Chrissy Teigen (again)

I feel like you know exactly what you’re doing with these pics, Chrissy. 7/10

14. January Jones

While the face mask is definitely creepy, it’s diluted some because NYC’s city life is a much-needed distraction. 4/10

15. Jenna Dewan-Tatum

Bravo, Jenna. You managed to turn something creepy into something actually pretty adorable. 2/10

16. John Stamos

Have mercy! Uncle Jesse…is…is that really you? 10/10

17. Emmy Rossum

While this isn’t a sheet mask, it’s still low-key terrifying. “Beat [sic] facial ever? or Hannibal Lecter Halloween costume?,” the Shameless star captioned. Seriously, Emmy, did you screen test for Goodnight Mommy or something? 12/10
