You’ll Need To Watch Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Alright’ Video Over And Over Again

1 July 2015
We knew that Kendrick Lamar filmed some amazing stunts for his “Alright” video, and we knew that he filmed portions of it in L.A. and San Francisco, but none of that could’ve prepared us for what we saw when the new clip debuted on Tuesday, June 30.

The black-and-white video runs for almost seven minutes, and I can guarantee that you’ll want to watch it at least twice in one sitting. There’s far too much to absorb in one stream, much like the song itself and his album To Pimp A Butterfly.

The video is laden with symbolism and representations of the environment K. Dot grew up in, from his rowdy crew — with cameos from Schoolboy Q, AB-Soul and Jay Rock — and of course, the ever-present police force.

The last minute of the video is particularly jarring, with an aerial slow motion shot, that includes spoken word portions of “Mortal Man.” Kendrick also starts the video in a similar way, quoting parts of the song, but adding some new lyrics that we haven’t heard before too.

Watch the video above, try to digest it, then hear Kendrick break down tracks from the album below.
