Ryan Reynolds surprises TV audience with appearance on Korean singing show

14 May 2018

King of Mask Singer is a widely popular TV singing show in South Korea for all the right reasons — instead of The Voice's chair-swiveling theatrics, singers on this show are required to don masks when performing, stripping away all identity in front of everyone watching.

Little did they know they were watching a Hollywood star belt a Broadway classic on the latest episode.

Deadpool 2 star Ryan Reynolds, who was in town to promote the film, made a shock appearance on the show by singing the beloved tune 'Tomorrow', from the musical Annie, while wearing a glittery unicorn costume. Many Korean idols have stunned crowds on King of Mask Singer, but certainly nothing like this.

As it is with tradition, his appearance was apparently kept under wraps during his very public promo tour in the country — so secret that his own wife was kept in the dark, he later reveals.

While now renowned for his sarcastic and (often) dark quips as comic book-turned-blockbuster film vigilante Deadpool, one of the show's judges even geeks out in front of him after the reveal, praising him for his role in 2007 action film Smokin' Aces.

And as if Reynolds cannot get any more likeable, the actor posted a hilarious tribute to his mother yesterday.

Deadpool 2 is out in theatres this week.
