Full Biography

16-year-old New Zealand singer-songwriter Lorde (a.k.a. The daughter of a celebrated poet, Lorde was raised on a nutritious musical diet spanning from Neil Young to The Smiths to Etta James, and went on to discover an equally eclectic range of inspiring artists including Bon Iver, Animal Collective, and Drake. But as vital and varied as those influences are, they don’t really begin to tell the full story of Lorde’s music, which melds concentrated, sharp-eyed lyrics and multilayered vocals with crisp beatscapes.

No wonder she’s the first female artist to top the U.S. Billboard Alternative chart in more than 17 years—and no wonder she’s October’s PUSH artist! All month long, MTV will be pushing Lorde’s music to fans around the globe.
