Royal Blood mixes anguished vocals, ferocious drumming, and bass that provides intricate detail as well as a rumble of rhythm. Yet this wall of sound emerges from just two men: Mike Kerr howls venomous lyrics while Ben Thatcher drums with the controlled aggression of a young Dave Grohl. The British duo wrap the primal essence of ferocious rock ‘n’ roll power into deft melodies and soaring hooks. Their musical influences stretch back from present-day heroes Queens of the Stone Age to Led Zeppelin to the early blues pioneers.

Kerr and Thatcher first met as teenagers and have been playing music together ever since. Kerr experimented with different instruments before settling on the bass and a unique cocktail of pedal and amps. Thatcher was given a drum kit for his sixth birthday and has remained committed to his instrument. Their pulverising 2013 debut single ‘Out of the Black’ earned significant national airplay, as did the B-side ‘Come On Over’. Press acclaim followed, along with a stint as openers for Arctic Monkeys and a spot on the longlist for the BBC Sound of 2014 poll. Now, hot off the August release of their self-titled debut album, Royal Blood have bagged the title of MTV’s October 2014 PUSH artist—and no doubt more accolades are soon to follow! Stay tuned all month for exclusive performances, interviews and more from this duo to watch.
