Made up of Emily Kokal (vocals/guitar), Theresa Wayman (vocals/guitar), Jenny Lee Lindberg (bassist/vocals), and Stella Mozgawa (drums/keyboards), L.A.-based experimental art-rockers Warpaint are creating a dreamy, hypnotic sound that is turning heads. While their claim to fame might be that actress Shannyn Sossamon used to play drums in the band and current Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist Josh Klinghoffer, once slung his ax in the band -- it makes for good copy -- the band is proving above and beyond any press beat-points that its ethereal and evocative musical pedigree is here to stay (it doesn't hurt when you're asked to play Lollapalooza before your first record is even out). The magical psychedelia displayed on the group's 2009 debut EP Exquisite Corpse -- mixed and mastered by another former Chili Pepper, John Frusciante -- made inroads, and by the time the full-length album, The Fool, dropped in October of last year, the band had officially arrived as new indie-rock darlings. Exhibiting a Fleetwood Mac-like bohemian style, the all-girl group certainly has the style thing down pat too. Showing that old friendships don't die, Sossamon is still involved with her old bandmates and recently directed the video for their newest haunting single, "Undertow." If you haven't heard of these ladies yet or their enchantingly hazy sound, it's only a matter of time before you do.
