Plot:In almost every major city in the world, people are yakking non-stop on their cell phones, almost every minute of the day. Stuart Shepard -- a publicist working his way up in New York City -- is no exception. Despite his ludicrous relationship with his handy mobile, he still finds time to call aspiring actress Pamela McFadden from a phone booth every day, so that his wife Kelly doesn't find out. All's well and dandy until a mysterious man holds him hostage in the phone booth. If he hangs up, his life is over.Players:See the beads of sweat and the intense glare? Colin Farrell (The Recruit,Daredevil) plays Stuart Shepard, the high flyer in the power suit. Farrell shifts from being a smug jerk to a rabbit tumbling down a hole within minutes of receiving a life threatening phone call, made by Kiefer Sutherland who plays the sniper. The movie's focus is on the little phone booth in downtown pseudo-Manhattan (the set was built in Los Angeles), which doesn't leave much room for Katie Holmes (Pamela McFadden) or Radha Mitchell (Kelly Shepard) to shine.Punchline:Word has it that director Joel Schumacher shot the movie in just 10 days. And for one hour and 20 minutes, we are literally trapped in the phone booth with Stuart Shepard. Thankfully, Schumacher and writer Larry Cohen combine a sticky situation with witty dialogue, delivered to hilarious effect by Farrell.Parting Shot:The come-clean-with-your-sins stance leaves a bad taste of self-righteousness in one's mouth. Still,Phone Boothis worth checking out if you like the thought of being trapped in a booth with Hollywood's next big thing. A word of warning though: the anticipation to see how Stuart gets out alive can only end in an anticlimax.
