Fall Out Boy did not "Dance, Dance" but they did truly "Beat It."

Back in town for their second headlining concert, there was only a long, black banner with the band name as the only concession to stage props for one of America's leading rockstars today. Already, the free-standing area before the stage was crammed with mostly tweens to teens.

Hey Monday, up-and-coming signee under Pete Wentz's Decaydance label, came on a little after 8pm as the opening act for the night. After previewing a couple of tracks from their new album, they said their thanks and retired backstage. After about a half hour interval, the ominously catchy strains of "Thnks Fr Th Mmrs" heralded the arrival of the boys, and amidst deafening cheers, Patrick Stump, Pete Wentz, Joe Trohman and Andy Hurley took their positions on stage.

Raw energy sizzled from the get-go as the boys rocked the stage, filling their set with plenty of bounding across the stage and brandishing of guitars held high. With barely a moment's rest to catch your breath, Fall Out Boy took their adoring fans through moshing favorites like "This Ain't A Scene, It's An Arms Race," "Thriller," and the MJ cover of "Beat It." A particular highlight was the rendition of "I Don't Care," when the stage lights dimmed, and all you could see were the boys' silhouettes and their guitars, which were set aglow with fairy lights.

Stump's vocals took some time to warm up during the earlier tracks, sounding a tad uncertain, before growing into his trademark throaty drawl, hitting the falsettos nicely. Spokesperson Wentz initiated most of the audience interaction, leading quite a few sing-a-longs to their better-known hits. Trohman and Hurley headbanged with gusto on the guitar and drums respectively, in their full-headed crowning glory.

Fall Out Boy's second concert here in Singapore was a no-frills event; just 4 boys on an uncluttered stage, delivering a solid hour and a half of good, ole punk rock. There were no costumes changes to rival any of their fantastic music videos. But judging from the thousands of fans lapping up their performance with no sign of abating energy, there's only one thing to say to send them off: "Thnks Fr Th Mmrs," boys!
