Hot, hot, hot.
The weather I mean. In tropical Malaysia, the weather is humid. Hot, sweaty bodies packed the venue to the brim. Young, old, not-so old, local and foreigners alike.
Whilst waiting for the Dolls to sizzle the stage, the organizers attempted to get the audience geared up by showcasing a local hip-hop singer, in collaboration with Malaysia's Guinness Record DJ, to perform. Even the emcees' attempts to engage the audience through silly dance contests failed to quell the audience's restless anticipation for the Dolls.
In true celebrity style, the Dolls made their presence felt after an hour's wait with their hit singles, "Buttons" and "Beep." Maybe it was the humid weather or just simply the Dolls love their images as potrayed in their music videos. Cleavages, bare mid-riffs, hot shorts and tussled hair were statements of the evening. For the next (but rather short) hour, Nicole Scherzinger, Carmit Bachar, Ashley Roberts, Jessica Sutta, Melody Thorton and Kimberly Wyatt pranced, danced and sang their way into their fans' hearts.
Despite criticisms from detractors that PCD is a one-singer group, the girls displayed what they are truly capable of. Throughout the show, Carmit and Melody impressed with their solo spots in songs like "I Don't Need A Man," "Old School/Fever" and "Stickwitu." The lead singer, Nicole, sang solo (sans music) for "Feelin' Good." The other girls were not left out in the cold as Ashley, Kimberly and Jessica, in their glittery corsets, displayed the Dolls' beginnings as a burlesque dance troupe through their excellent choreographed moves.
The Dolls covered most of the songs from their debut self-titled album. "Wait A Minute," "Hot Stuff" and "Bite The Dust" worked the crowd up and jumping and the Dolls were out to prove that they could handle the jazz number, "Sway," plus a short number (not found in the album) which had the Dolls teasing the crowd with each Doll's sexy dance moves. Mini pyro works on and off the stage only further fuelled the fans' screams and chants of "I Love You!" and "PCD!"
To cap it off, the Dolls probably had all hot-blooded males in the house wishing their girlfriends were really like them with their breakthrough song, "Don't Cha." Notwithstanding the lack of costume changes, short performance time and no encore, the Dolls did what they are best in doing: entertaining the audience and their fans in true burlesque style.
