Marié Digby
Unfold
(Hollywood Records)

By Menreet Kaur
Our Rating: 6/10

Choice Cut : "Fool", "Miss Invisible", "Girlfriend", "Say It Again"

Why, it's another sweet singer-songwriter who strums her guitar on home-made YouTube videos and almost effortlessly, shoots to fame.

Only this time round, the YouTube videos was her own desperate attempt at marketing herself when her label, Hollywood Records, left her in the lurch, unattended and uncared for after they dropped her first album, Start Here.

Who could she be? Back to restore her former glory once recognized by industry's leading professionals? This tortured little soul, writing songs of heartbreak ("Better Off Alone"), broken trusts ("Traffic"), self-esteem issues ("Miss Invisible") and all things foolish ("Fool")?

Why, it's the ever effervescent twenty-five year old Marié Digby of course. She is back on the market with an online audience capping off numbers that would make even World of Warcraft cheat code fanatics look pathetic.

Marié Digby's original lyrical escapades and never-thought-possible-acoustic-renditions of hip hop's finest tracks such as Rihanna's "Umbrella" and Britney Spears "Gimme More" has made her one of the most creative web-triggered celebrities.

Her first major label album, Unfold, not only gives us a reason to wallow in our own self-pity but it also makes us realize that even with flowers plastered all over the artwork of her album, it does not necessarily mean that its presence equates happiness.

That really isn't a bad thing, honestly. At least we know she's human and intends on producing music that can relate to the rest of us mere citizens.
