Aimee Anne 'Duffy' is the new chick in town that has a magical capability to transport you to another era the minute you a) watch her perform live or b) listen to her debut album, Rockferry. Her act comes nothing short of immense sixties style hairdos, brightest shade of crimson on her lips, rocking Dolly Parton outfits and belting out snazzy soul music in her nasally repertoire.
This Welsh singer-songwriter is living proof that history always repeats itself - but this time with good cause. Mixing up beats that were eminent back in the day with today's eclectic instruments and topping it off with her signature vocal chords gives her album the "new vintage" feel.
Her first single "Mercy" though a classic on its own, unfortunately gave her reason to be touted as the next Amy Winehouse. It all boiled down to Amy's "No, no, no" in "Rehab" versus Duffy's "Yeah, yeah, yeah" in "Mercy"; And when you have this sort of competition, they either cross each other out or both become mega stars of their own right. Duffy's next single release "Rockferry" however, is one that would solidify her standing and differentiate her quite thoroughly. Each and every track on her album is absolutely timeless, promising her markets of all generations.
Throughout the 37:50 mins of Rockferry, Duffy never exudes any feelings - she kind of just is. It seems as though her heart has been metal plated and nothing can saw itself through that. Thank god though for her banging vocals, for it is her only saving grace.
