Sara Bareilles
Little Voice
(Epic)

By Menreet Kaur
Our Rating: 6/10

Choice Cut : ''Love Song,'' ''One Sweet Love,'' ''Morningside,'' ''Many The Miles,'' ''Come Round Soon''

Armed with a piano and a strong little voice, Sara Bareilles is marching right into the pop scene with a bang. Even then, this twenty-nine year old Californian girl-next-door has got no airs about her. No self-indulgent lyrics and no pretentious stances -- just wholesome music.

Her first major label Billboard Top 10 album, Little Voice, is comparable the likes of Delta Goodrem, but only with much more edge. Not only does Sara execute some great piano pop, she also meshes things up with a touch of jazz and rock flawlessly for a sound to call her own.

Her first hit single, "Love Song," in which she seems to be vehemently against writing a love song for her man (but in the end she kind of did, didn't she?), has been steadily climbing the charts worldwide. Having been childhood friends with the boys from Maroon 5, a similar tune style execution is evident in "Come Round Soon." The track "One Sweet Love" also boasts some pretty raw and emotion-revoking lyrics that will give you some thoughts to ponder over.

Sara Bareilles may think that she's a little voice among the sea of pop acts but her wee act of self-deprecation can't mask the fact that she is a breath of fresh air. Judging by the positive reception, it's clear that things will always be greener on Sara's side.

"Sara Bareilles does hold her own among other singer-songwriters like Fiona Apple and Rachael Yamagata. Her lyrics might not be as lyrical as Apple's or as heartfelt as Yamagata's but she certainly have an edge when it comes to displaying that not-so little voice of hers. All said, this effort is worth a place in your CD rack if you're into the singer-songwriters scene."
