Our Rating: 8/10

Choice Cut : ''Darlin' Don't You Know,'' ''Fiction,'' ''Shake Attack,'' ''Wooh,'' ''Sweetest Man,'' ''Stellarblowout'&

Sounds Like:From the chemical-induced dance rock of Skrooloose, to the indie rock of The Fergusons and the dark pop of Concave Scream, this soundtrack boasts an edgy current, which goes under the belly of the movie's comic moments. You May Have Heard:Directed by Esan Sivalingam -- the writer behind some of the best television comedies in Singapore --City Sharkstells the story of an orphaned drifter who becomes a loan shark in order to save his orphanage from being demolished. Together with two pals, he sets out to collect debts owed to a dead loan shark, and along the way, deals with the powerful mafioso and a mysterious samurai. Starring Singapore's most popular television and film personalities like Nicholas Lee, Moses Lim, Koh Chieng Mun, and Lim Kay Tong, the movie won the Best Comedy award at the American Screen Arts Foundation Awards in 2002.We Fancy:Don Richmond's theme song"Darlin' Don't You Know"has a wonderful '60s throwback amidst Jonathan Richman-style good-time vibes."Wooh"has Throb rocking their funk through a grooving spin fuelled by mean jazz kicks. Concave Scream's"Fiction"draws from their fabulous brand of dark pop and makes for compelling listening. Scoring well on the bouncy dance scale is the highly charged"Shake Attack"by B.A.D.A.S.S. The second offering by Skrooloose,"Pull The Trigger,"mesmerizes with an intense workout in the beat department. Observatory's contribution,"The Sweetest Man,"chills out on simple atmospherics and leaves one calling out for more. We're Not Sure About:The soundtrack features great driving music for a road trip movie, but missing from the soundtrack is the dance pop song or ballad usually belted out by a femme fatale, fashioned as a stellar surefire hit. It might have done the album some favors in terms of sales, but the way it is, perhaps no favors were needed.Verdict:The movie didn't enjoy a long run at the box office, but the soundtrack is an excellent collection. Full of surprises, the soundtrack twists and turns to weave pop music with a darker streak into the context of a comedy.
