Best Of The Best
(EQ Music)

By Sheng Yuen
Our Rating: 5/10

In Summary : Sped up psychedelic music with no destination on the horizon.

Sounds Like:Quick, turn that dial! Some radio station with very low quality control and a program director who's a closet Solid Gold dancer has just taken over the airwaves! You May Have Heard:Lilu's insidious"Little Girl,"Britney Spears's infuriating"Oops! I Did It Again,"and Dorothea's idiotic"Email"are songs you must have been assaulted by at some point in time. Collectively, they signal the end of human intelligence. We Fancy:Are you kidding? Well, actually, some of the tracks like"Love's Got A Hold On My Heart"by Steps are still worth three minutes of one's lifetime on earth, but endure a double-CD worth of these chromosome-deficient ditties and you would wish someone could send you into the infinite silence of outer space. We're Not Sure About:We believe that fast-paced dance tracks have their rightful place in the scheme of things. We also know that such music has an indispensable role to play in various high school parties from Singapore to San Francisco. We don't think, however, that this release, with a total tally of 30 tracks, deserves to be called"Best Of The Best."Herein lies our bone of contention.Verdict:Dance music, that much maligned genre that is the metaphorical whipping boy of music critics, gets its reputation rubbed deeper into the ground with this compilation.
