Bridget Jones's Diary
(Universal)
By Sheila Price
In Summary : Total tracks 16, price v.g; chicken soup for the woman's love-sick soul..
Sounds Like:Music that single, hapless women and die-hard romantics all over will love and can identify with. Preaching the words of Bridget Jones, don't be defeated by bad boyfriend, instead call your girlfriends, and let your hair down to Chaka Khan. You May Have Heard:Geri Halliwell's pop version of"It's Raining Men,"on MTV and have been waiting anxiously for the movie. Also Gabrielle's"Out of Reach"the movie's second single that has been playing over the airwaves and winning hearts. We Fancy:The"you-go girl, I'm every woman, R-E-S-P-E-C-T"feminist messages that will lift any low self esteem. From Gabrielle's tender heartbreaker to Sheryl Crow's strong"Kiss that Girl,"Shelby Lynnes's cool"Killin Kind,"and beautiful"Dreamsome."Dina Caroll's sentimental favorite of Van Morrison's"Someone Like You,"and oldies but goodies like Diana Ross&Marvin Gaye's"Stop, Look, Listen(to Your Heart)"sets you in the mood for some lovin. There's something about motown music. While the over the top, tearjerker"All By Myself"by Jamie O'Neal will make you laugh than cry as you recall Bridget miming to the song in her pjs.Besides Geri Halliwell, Robbie Williams lends some English presence to this Brit film with two delightful ditties, singing a Sinatra classic"Have You Seen Miss Jones?"in true, rat pack style and his dreamy"Not Of This Earth."We're Not Sure About:Why a few songs featuted in the movie are missing. Why do they do that? Diana Ross'"Ain't No Mountain High Enough,"the Pretenders'"Don't Get Me Wrong,"and Van Morrison's original of"Someone Like You,"while the songs by Crow and Lynne were never in the movie. In place of Geri's appalling version, the Weather Girls's original which would fitted in nicely with the other motown mamas.Verdict:Total tracks 16, price v.g; like chicken soup to the love-sick soul.
