BAM!
(BAM/Universal)
By Britpopster
In Summary : A really groovy dance compilation. Don't settle for anything less.
Sounds Like:A groovy hybrid of trance, techno, jungle, house and even hip hop all in one superb dance compilation. As compared to those cheapskate euro-cheese compilations that are flooding the market, this is top-notch stuff. You May Have Heard:Whoa, there are so many that we don't know where to start. How about U2's brilliant Quincy&Sonance Radio Edit of"Beautiful Day,"funk soul brother Fatboy Slim's"Star 69,"Spiller's"Groovejet,"Modjo's"Chillin',"Stereo MC's"Deep Down And Dirty"and all?We Fancy:The inclusion of various banging good tunes and dance floor fillers -- Musique VS U2 trance-y"New Year's Dub,"Airheadz' techno smash"Stanley (Here I Am),"Ratty's hard house/trance German fare"Sunrise,"Spiller's"Groovejet,"3 Amigos' house-y"25 Miles 2001"-- that shook the dance nation. A good charming dose of quirky grooves and bouncy bass lines that will get you to the dance floor instantly. We're Not Sure About:And yet, the compilers have left out U.K garage. Should have replaced the awful Ding Fei Fei's"Forgotten Moon"and the annoying Nelly Furtado's"I'm Like A Bird"with tracks from two-steppers like Artful Dodger, Oxide&Neutrino or even Craig David. What exactly is Nelly Furtado doing here?! We are not complaining about Barry White's funky Funkstar Deluxe Mix of"Let Your Music Play"though.Verdict:While"BAM!"might not be your definitive dance compilation, it's definitely way out there! Good for dance music newbies and at the same time, a real clubber's delight!
