Gold 90.5FM Duets
(Universal)

By Yong Shu Hoong
Our Rating: 5/10

In Summary : Seeing double? On this compilation of well-known duets, two singers are better than one.

Sounds Like:Another love songs compilation, except that there's more harmony involved here. You May Have Heard:"Endless Love"(Lionel Richie and Diana Ross),"Reunited"(Peaches and Herb), and"Can't We Try"(Dan Hill and Vonda Shepard). We Fancy:The idea of collecting worthy hit duets onto one single album. Of course, the obvious ones are here --"Endless Love"(Lionel Richie and Diana Ross),"Reunited"(Peaches and Herb),"Heartbreaker"(Dionne Warwick featuring Barry Gibb), and"How Do You Keep The Music Playing?"(Patti Austin and James Ingram). Also, expect some newer ones like"Fixing A Broken Heart"(Indecent Obsession and Mari Hamada),"Can't We Try"(Dan Hill and Vonda Shepard), and a quirky updated version of Irene Car'ss"What A Feeling"(originally from the movie"Flashdance"), now performed with DJ Bobo for an added Euro-disco effect. We're Not Sure About:Some of the weaker duets, like"Whenever There Is Love"(Bruce Roberts and Donna Summer), which sound like filler tracks making up the disc[radical]s total play time. Maybe it's due to the difficulty in negotiating between music labels, but it is almost unforgivable for the album not to include"Tonight I Celebrate My Love"and a few famous duets from Disney's animated movies.Verdict:With a little more thought put into it, this compilation by Universal Asia and Singapore's Gold 90.5FM could have been an even better prize.
