Grammy Nominees 2001
(Capitol Records)

By Chili Paddy
Our Rating: 7/10

Friendly Advice : Get into the mood for Grammy Awards 2001 with this collection!

Sounds like:Another compilation cd. However, the likes of musical greats such as Steely Dan, Paul Simon and Joni Mitchell give this collection a touch of sophistication. You May Have Heard:Most of the tracks here especially those by Britney Spears, *NSYNC, Christina Aguilera, Eminem, Macy Gray, The Corrs, U2, Madonna and Beck.We Fancy:The packaging that gives you information about the Recording Academy and a complete list of categories (not the nominees though as that would take up too much space) for this year's Grammy Awards. Besides the popular hits, the average pop fan can get acquainted with Radiohead, Aimee Mann, veterans Steely Dan, Paul Simon and Joni Mitchell who does an updated recording of her classic song"Both Sides Now."It just goes to show how much good music does not get on mainstream pop radio. We're Not Sure About:Nothing really. The 17 acts and tracks here are culled from four categories -- Record Of The Year, Best Female Pop Vocal Performance, Album Of The Year and Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal. How Britney Spears got nominated is an entirely different matter altogether.Verdict:Chances are you already have most of the tracks here on other compilation or the artists' albums. If you follow the Grammy Awards (why?) every year, then add this to your CD collection for academic reasons.
