Believe: A Christmas Collection
(Giant)

By Rob Kemp (VH1.com)
Our Rating: 3/10

In Summary : Perry Como and Kenny Rogers as exemplars of good country music. Next thing you know, Santa will turn out to be real.

This collection of yule tunes could have been called"Have A Very Nashville Christmas."Although Neal McCoy's medley of"I'll Be Home For Christmas/Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas"has more to do with the influence of the Beach Boys than that of Patsy Cline, most of the artists here have more of a classic country orientation: with"Cowboy Christmas"Clay Walker kicks a little tail Western Swing style; Keith Harling takes a page from guitar-steel whiz Junior Brown with his turbo-charged"Santa's Got A Semi"; The Johnny Staats Project plop some piercing mandolin soul into"What Child Is This?"And none other than Kenny Rogers proves he's more than the roasted chicken-hawker you might know him to be. Further, Perry Como couldn't make"The Christmas Song"any smoother or comforting.Think about that: Perry Como and Kenny Rogers as exemplars of good country music. Next thing you know, Santa will turn out to be real.
