A Very Ally Christmas
(Sony Music)
By Sheila Price
Sounds Like:A very Ally Christmas album alright. Vonda and company sure know how to throw a party -- there's plenty of cheer, pizazz, soul, blues, jazz, rock 'n' roll, and country all wrapped up into one spirited album. You May Have Heard:Vonda croons out tracks like"Please Come For Christmas,""Silver Bells,""Let It Snow, Let Snow, Let It Snow"; the show's sexpot secretary Elaine's (Jane Krakowski) rockin'"Run, Rudolph, Run"; and Ally's (Calista Flokhart's) girlie coos on Eartha Kitt's"Santa Baby,"on the show's Christmas episodes over four seasons. We Fancy:The nice assortment of melodies, for one. From Vonda's soulful"This Christmas,"to the swingin'"The Man With The Bag,"the bluesy"Please Come Home This Christmas,"to the sentimental"Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas,"and the classy"What Are You Doing New Year's Eve."Then there's the boundless talent found in Macy Gray's animated"Winter Wonderland,"with that quirky voice of hers. And my, oh my, can Robert Downey Jr. sing!"Ally McBeal's"new recruit and man has a Joe Cocker/Bruce Springsteen rock vocal."River"oozes pure romance while his duet with Vonda on"White Christmas"is simply lovely. We're Not Sure About:Surprisingly, Lisa Nicole Carson's (Renee) short and out-of-tune"Santa Claus Got A Stick In My Chimney."Honestly, she sounds like she's on a high here! Pity though, she has an incredible voice.Verdict:I adored it so much, that I dashed out and got more copies as gifts! So grab this album -- it's selling out like frozen turkeys. What can I say? It's perfect for the festive season and certainly sets the mood. And I guarantee it'll appeal to young and old! Otherwise you should add this to your already"Ally"collection.
