"Beaucoup Fish"(V2)Rating: ****
Choice cuts:"King of Snake,""Cups,""Bruce Lee"Underworld is undeniably the most prominent influence in the current electronic dance scene. Way before the next wave of dance acts like Chemical Brothers and The Prodigy, Underworld had already signaled the arrival of electronica. However, the huge commercial splash made by Underworld only came in the form of"Born Slippy"(partly due to the success of the movie"Trainspotting"). Three years later, Underworld is now back with a musical direction that sticks close to their electronic roots -- a direction that had legends such as David Bowie and U2 singing their praises many years ago. Rather than making"Beaucoup Fish"a predictable post-Born Slippy affair, Underworld creates an album that is almost a summary of their brilliant career. The wide range of house, techno, hardcore, down-tempo, and laid-back styles represented here is a perfect gauge of what Underworld can do for the future of club music. Even electronic genius Kraftwerk will be suitably impressed. -- Ming Kang
