Derrick Hoh And Jocie Guo Spread Open Happiness
By Madeleine Chong
Asian pop artistes Derrick Hoh (of Singapore's Project Superstar fame) and sweetie pie Jocie Guo have lots to smile about.
As the voices behind the Singapore rendition of Coca-Cola's campaign single, "Open Happiness", they join the esteemed ranks of some of music's hottest acts such as Gnarls Barkley, Fall Out Boy and Panic at the Disco, who have formed a super-group collaboration on the global version.
Chosen for their unwavering perseverance, exuberance and zest for life, "Open Happiness" opens up a significant slew of 'firsts' for the singers -first duet, first English song, first rap (for Derrick) and first local collaboration with an iconic brand.
Sporting snazzy outfits and accessories such as suspenders and a fedora in classic Coke colors of red, white, and black, the bubbly artistes sang the titular track and traded anecdotes and cheeky banter on working together.
"Open Happiness" is as cheery a track as it comes, bursting with pure pop flavor and a head-bopping melody. With lyrics such as "Come on and lift me up, it's a brand new day, open up a little happiness today", its mantra brims with optimism, one that the stars are eager to rally around.
"In our line of work, it can get stressful sometimes, so I find joy in appreciating the simple things in life," said Derrick.
And what are some of these little things that they're grateful for?
"We can be shooting a music video and we'll pray for good weather because it's so important for things to proceed smoothly. When it comes true and we manage to complete everything, that's happiness for me," said Jocie.
James Chin, Senior Brand Manager for Sparkling Beverages, Coca-Cola Singapore added, "We're not claiming to be the remedy for the world's woes, but we're saying that there can be happiness if you look at things differently and have a brighter outlook on life."
The music video was shot on June 13th at The Heeren with 200 fans in attendance. It featured a big sing-a-long session with Derrick and Jocie.
