Placebo & More Performed For MTV Exit At Angkor Wat, Cambodia
By News Desk
On December 7, at the magnificent Angkor Wat temple, Placebo played an electrifying set that included specially rehearsed unique orchestrations of their songs. The show was the band's only performance in 2008. Placebo was joined by seven international and Cambodian artists at the concert, produced by MTV EXIT to raise awareness and increase prevention of human trafficking, a crime impacting millions of people worldwide.
A capacity crowd of over 1,000 fans from Cambodia and around the world attended the concert featuring US rock band The Click Five, Grammy-award-winner Duncan Sheik, Australian pop starlet Kate Miller-Heidke, Cambodian hip hop legend Pou Khlaing, and Cambodian pop stars Sokun Nisa, Meas Soksohpiam and Chorn Sovanrech.
MTV EXIT (End Exploitation and Trafficking) is a project of the MTV Europe Foundation - a London-based registered charity - to raise awareness and increase prevention of human trafficking and exploitation. MTV EXIT in Asia is produced in partnership with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
"Let's not forget the reason that we are here today at this special concert. Millions of people are currently living as slaves. We're here to join the fight to combat this abhorrent trade," said Brian Molko of Placebo.
"This was a performance of a lifetime. Nothing could have prepared us for such an experience. We are truly thankful for all those who made this show happen," said the members of The Click Five.
"Music is an incredible force for change and this concert illustrated that. Today we joined together at a truly moving and beautiful location to make a statement that we all have to join together to end slavery," said Simon Goff, MTV EXIT Campaign Director.
Angkor Wat is the best-preserved temple at the UNESCO World Heritage-listed complex near Siem Reap, Cambodia. The 12th-Century temple served as a backdrop for scenes in Tomb Raider, the action movie starring Angelina Jolie, and is one of the most unique and iconic cultural sites of the world.
