The 9th CCTV-MTV Music Honors Pays Tribute To Top Asian Artists

Celebrating its ninth year, the CCTV-MTV Music Honors was ablaze with the star-studded line-up of top Asian artists. With a nearly 6000-strong audience, the 9th CCTV-MTV Music Honors proudly presented the big winners of each honor which took place at the Beijing Worker's Gymnasium at 7.30pm on November 17.
The 9th CCTV-MTV Music Honors was different from those of the previous years. Interchanging with Hip-hop music and performances, Chinese elements were introduced throughout the Show such as Beijing Opera, Taichi and Chinese drums.
CCTV-MTV Music Honors gives recognition to artists for their contributions to the music industry in Mainland China. Fans voted for the winners of six awards, including Most Popular Male/Female Artist of the Year in Mainland China, Most Popular Male/Female Artist of the Year in Hong Kong and Most Popular Male/Female Artist of the Year in Taiwan. Viewers were also given the chance to vote for the host of this year's show.
Jointly hosted by Vanness Wu, MTV China VJ JuJu, CCTV anchors Li Si Si and Ren Lu Yu, the night started off with an unforgettable opening performance of "The Magic Eagle Show" by Vanness Wu. The crowd went mad with his Hip-hop dance, and everyone cheered and clapped. Big Mouth, a young Hip-hop group from Taiwan, roused the crowd with their greatest hit "So Finally…."
Known as the most talented Canto-pop singer in Hong Kong, Eason Chan won his second Most Popular Male Artist of the Year whilst Karen Mok, an accomplished actress and singer, won the Most Popular Female Artist of the Year. Eason brought the audience with his Mandarin song "The Road Is Always There."
Tan Jing won the Best Female Artist of the Year for Mainland China. She moved the audience with a stirring performance of "The Sky." Wang Feng, the winner of Best Male Artist of the Year, performed his song "Brave Heart." Chen Hao won the Most Popular Female Artist of the Year whilst Pang Long got the Most Popular Male Artist of the Year. The Most Popular New Artist of the Year went to Yao Bei Na.
Show Lo was voted as the winner of the Most Popular Male Artist in Taiwan by his fans. The Most Popular Female Artist award went to Jolin Cai. Her performance "The Sun Never Set" has captured the hearts of the audience and all of her fans sang along with her.
Taiwan's latest diva Joanna Wang grabbed her first award in CCTV-MTV Music Honors - Most Popular New Female Artist of the Year in Hong Kong and Taiwan. Both Jacky Chan and Xiao Ke were honored with the Special Contribution to Music Award this year for their contribution to the Beijing Olympics and Sichuan earthquake.
Super Junior M was awarded the Best Group of the Year of Mainland China. The boys received a roaring welcome when they came to the stage. The group had also won the Favourite Artist of Korea in MTV Asia Awards this year. The dazzling night ended with their performance of "U," making the 9th CCTV-MTV Music Honors the best show ever in 2008.
The 9th CCTV-MTV Music Honors will premiere on MTV China 24-hrs Channel at 8pm on November 28, 2008. The awards ceremony will also broadcast on MTV China's syndications as well as CCTV3 nationwide.
