ZoukOut 2008

Aiming to create Golden moments etched in your mind, ZoukOut 2008, everyone's favourite beach party returns this December to take party people across the region on a brilliant escape into a rhapsody of music, dancing, art and festivities.

In fitting with the golden theme, ZoukOut's opening hours will be brought forward to 6.30pm to capture the sunset and include the best acts to suit the precious sundown hours.

French collective, Nouvelle Vague will perform LIVE and treat the crowd to their Bossa and Caribbean inspired arrangements of rarely covered songs from the 1980s New Wave and punk era that made them a worldwide success, such as beautiful renditions of classics like Joy Division's "Love Will Tear Us Apart" and Depeche Mode's "Just Can't Get Enough."

Complementing the sunset line up are remarkable homegrown bands like Moods, primed to release their new album and Bloco Singapura + NovoBloco, comprised of an 8 piece band and a 40 strong percussion team playing carnival rhythms, fused with contemporary sounds. After an unforgettable debut at The Night Festival in July 2008, this rousing act is bound to get the crowd moving.

Electrico, Singapore's favourite band will return with new arrangements of tracks from their latest record especially to perform at ZoukOut, to show another side of their music and build on the momentum of the artists playing before them.


Full Artist Lineup

Encapsulating the sounds and vibes of the various rooms namely, Velvet Underground, Phuture and the much feted main room of Zouk, this party of grandeur proportions pushes boundaries as much as the sounds of electronica past and present.

Besides Nouvelle Vague live, part time art director / music maker and ZoukOut debutant, Henrik Schwarz will inspire with his deep, infectious techno infused live set. With releases on labels like the coveted "!K7" and the seminal "Innervisions," he's just the man to get the groove on for this all out sweat fest.

Worshiped by bands and DJs alike, living electronic idol Erol Alkan makes his regional and Singapore debut! Inventor of mash-up and heralded as bringing both guitar and electronic music back from the grave, hearing him is believing.

A relative newbie but no less of a force to be reckoned with is Dirty South. His meteoric rise, no fluke after producing several monster dancefloor hits, has led to remixes for artistes from Tracey Thorn and Tiesto to the Pussycat Dolls and even Snoop Dogg.

Dance music pioneer, stadium filler and "Son of Man" (as he was one time known as), Sasha returns to ZoukOut after a 5 year hiatus. A hectic tour schedule, on-going production work on top of running his new label "emFIRE" is how Sasha stays ahead of the game and continually stays in the Top 10 DJ list.

Also making their debut are French synthpop band; The Teenagers. With their pervy wit, sunshine strumming and classic synth-work they'll be bringing their trademark audaciously sharp Parisian attitude and rockability to the beach.

World renowned trance triumvirate Above & Beyond, currently ranked number 6 in the Top 100 DJ poll, need no introduction. Famed for their special blend of trance that's equal parts lulling as well as emotionally charged ensures they are always on top of their game.

Adding more French flair to ZoukOut will be none other than the style-meister himself Dimitri from Paris. Awarded the special rank of 'Knight of the Arts & Letters' by the French Government for being such a trendsetter for the French house music scene, Dimitri's sets are always a thing of stylish splendour.

Touted by Q magazine as one of the DJs you must see before you die as well as one of the top 3 DJs in the world in Hip Hop Connection Magazine, DJ Yoda is back to wow the crowds with his flawless cut and paste mixing abilities and to headline the Mambo Jambo/ Hip Hop Arena.

Pacha resident and permanent fixture in the Ibiza scene DJ Pippi, will return to reprise his role of bringing in the sunshine with his notoriously uplifting and emotional sunrise sets. Having played with such legends like Frankie Knuckles, David Morales and Jose Padilla, it's no surprise that Pippi's sets are eclectic as they are groovy and always with an unmistakable vibe of the islands.

Premiere of World's Largest Remote Control Kites at ZoukOut!
GoFlyKite will unveil the "World's Largest Remote Control Kite" at ZoukOut! These extraordinary mega-kites boast an impressive array of features including onboard lasers and amazing agility. At midnight, a wave of these illuminated night giants will perform aerobatic feats, fanning out across the sky, performing loops, spiral dives and air-to-ground laser displays; a spectacle not be witnessed anywhere else in the world!

Artists Storm the Beach
Everyone who has ever attended ZoukOut knows it's not only about the best in dance music, it's about the entire festival experience, an escape into a unique entertainment wonderland, for locals and visitors alike.

For 2008, besides the usual out-of-this world performers, carnival rides, drumming lessons, palmistry, massages and inexpensive food vendors, Zouk teams up with the Singapore Art Museum to present several one off installations from Singapore's freshest emerging artists.
