Jennifer Hudson Angles For A 'Sex And The City' Comeback, Calls 'Secret Life Of Bees' A 'Powerful Film'

Jennifer Hudson may have just released her self-titled debut album, but the former American Idol contestant is already returning to the big screen for several upcoming film projects. She won the Oscar for her role as Effie White in Dreamgirls and also starred in this year's hit chick flick Sex and the City, and with a few more movies on the horizon, she's ready to call Hollywood home.

Hudson is back in drama mode for the film The Secret Life of Bees. "I'm so excited. It's a very powerful film," she told MTV News. "There's not one weak link in it. It's based in the civil-rights era. I play Dakota [Fanning]'s character Lily's nanny."

Hudson gushed about working with the 15-year-old actress and said despite their 12-year age difference, she learned so much working with Fanning. "Oh my God! She's so young in age, but in experience, she's a whole lot older," Hudson said. "I call her 'Momma Dakota.' She's so smart."

Hudson also worked with Fanning on the film Winged Creatures, in which the actress teamed up with fellow Oscar winner Forest Whitaker. "I play Kathy, which is Forest Whitaker's daughter, and basically my father disappears and I'm on the search," Hudson said.

Of course, everyone wants to know about a sequel to the Sex and the City movie. Will Carrie Bradshaw's assistant, Louise, make a comeback? "Well, there's been talks here and there [about a sequel], and like I told [director] Michael Patrick King, 'If that's the case, Louise has already moved back to New York,' " she joked about her character.
