Lil Wayne, Jonas Brothers, Kanye West Among VMA Contenders For Best Pop, Hip-Hop Videos

Another week, another batch of 2008 MTV Video Music Awards nominees - handpicked by you at VMA.MTV.com and a select assembly of industry insiders. While the contenders for the Best Male Video and Best Female Video categories were revealed last week, this week brings us the five hopefuls who'll be vying for the Best Pop Video and the Best Hip-Hop Video Moonmen.
The Jonas Brothers earned their first-ever VMA nomination in the Best Pop Video category, as their clip for "Burnin' Up" makes the list, while embattled pop star Britney Spears got one of her own - adding to last week's Best Female Video nomination - for her "Piece of Me" clip. The Bros and Brit will face off against rock upstarts Tokio Hotel (who nabbed a nod for their "Ready Set Go" clip); alluring girl group Danity Kane ("Damaged"); and the Best New Artist winners from two VMAs ago, Panic at the Disco ("Nine in the Afternoon").
There are four guys and one classy lady up for the Best Hip-Hop Video honor: Lil Wayne, whose Tha Carter III sold more than 1 million copies its first week in stores, makes the list with his "Lollipop" clip, while Lupe Fiasco's "Superstar" video is also in the running. Flo Rida's "Low" also scored a nomination, as did Kanye West's "Homecoming" and R&B diva Mary J. Blige's "Just Fine."
But Lil Wayne isn't just a VMA nominee. On Friday, it was also revealed that he'll be taking the stage during the awards. No word yet on whether he'll be performing his VMA-nominated track.
Right now, you can head over to VMA.MTV.com and cast your votes in two new categories: Best New Artist and Best Dancing in a Video. Those nominees will be announced on next Friday's installment of FNMTV. After that, one more round of voting will remain to determine the nominees for Best Rock Video and the one everyone wants, Video of the Year.
The 25th VMAs are scheduled to take over the legendary Paramount Pictures Studios in Hollywood on September 7, with the Jonas Brothers already confirmed to perform. Of course, additional acts will be gracing the VMA stage this year, and those names will be unveiled in the coming weeks. British funnyman and Forgetting Sarah Marshall co-star Russell Brand has been named as the show's host.
