Jonas Brothers To Perform At 2008 MTV Video Music Awards
By Chris Harris (MTV.com)
They've toured with the likes of Kelly Clarkson and Miley Cyrus, there are posters of them tacked up in the rooms of preteen girls nationwide, and now, the Jonas Brothers are all set to take this year's MTV Video Music Awards by storm.
On the Friday night (July 18) episode of FNMTV, it was revealed that Kevin, Joe and Nick Jonas would be performing at the 25th annual VMAs; the show will air live, and only once in its original incarnation, on September 7 at 9 pm. This year's host, as well as additional performers and presenters, will be announced in the coming weeks.
"This is an awesome opportunity," the Jonas Brothers collectively said in a press release. "We have grown up watching all the amazing and iconic performances on the VMAs. It is an honor to be a part of something so incredible."
In addition to the Jonas Brothers' set, MTV also announced that they would be letting VMA viewers in on all the nomination fun this year. Every Friday night, during FNMTV, two new award categories will be revealed, and viewers will be asked to vote for their favorite artists and videos at VMA.MTV.com.
Then, on the following week's show, the finalists will be declared as the official nominees for that category.
The first two categories fans will be able to vote on are Best Male Video and Best Female Video. Ballots for the 2008 VMAs are also being sent to an exclusive group of industry insiders, who'll help determine the nominees for the telecast.
"The VMAs have a long, sometimes twisted, always musical history of monumental moments that define each year, and this year will be no exception," said Van Toffler, the president of MTV Networks. "By empowering our audience to help determine this year's nominees, taking over LA's famed movie studio and back lot for the summer's hottest artists to perform, your bet is as good as mine as to what may happen."
