Ali Lohan Desperately Tries To Avoid Miley Cyrus Comparisons
By Gil Kaufman (MTV.com)
With all those episodes of Wipeout and Swingtown choking my TiVO, I haven't really gotten around to watching the trashtastic E! series Living Lohan. Maybe that's why I missed out on the episode chronicling the recording of "All The Way Around," the first single from Ali Lohan's upcoming debut full-length album. The 14-year-old sister of Lindsay told People magazine that the sound on her album is, like, way different than the perky pop of fellow teen Miley Cyrus.
Not that there's anything wrong with sounding like Hannah Montana.
"She's really good," the more diplomatic Lohan said of Cyrus. "But I have different music than her. It's a different vibe - it's definitely a different vibe. Mine is more hip-hop. Kind of like Rihanna."
Viewers of the "Lohan" show are familiar with the modern pop-encyclopedia sound of "Around," which hits iTunes on July 14. The tune was recorded at the Palms Hotel in Las Vegas, produced by Emanuel "Eman" Kiriakou (Nick Lachey, Jordin Sparks) and co-written by Kara DioGuardi (Britney Spears, Celine Dion, Leona Lewis and, um, Hannah Montana).
I'm gonna split the difference on the Miley/Rihanna comparison and say that the spare hip-pop track is kind of a Kelly-meets-Avril-with-a-touch-of-Justin-and-a-bit-of-Leona-with-that-cool-drum-machine-and-acoustic-guitar-bounce-thing.
Listen for yourself here.
