Singapore Fringe Festival Is Back!

By Lennat Mak

For those who enjoy arts and music on the fringe, you will be glad with this news. The Singapore Fringe Festival is back! The fourth edition of the festival will run from January 16 - 27, 2008. Organized by The Necessary Stage, the festival aims to present more exhilarating, edgy and thought-provoking original works across a variety of genres, with the central theme of Art and History.

"Art has been used as a powerful medium to record our individual histories as well as our interpretation of the past," said Alvin Tan, the Artistic Director of The Necessary Stage. "Art provides us with the means to create our logbook of catastrophes, travesties, joys and successes of the past, which we can refer to as we are swept off into the future. The 20 works presented at the Festival aim to unearth myriad perspectives on this theme, and we would like to challenge our audiences to engage with and respond to these issues."

Artists who are gracing the forthcoming festival includes Finland's Tellervo Kalleinen and Oliver Kochta-Kalleinen, Scotland's 7:84 Theatre Company, musicians such as Colleen, Sylvain Chauveau, Hauschka and there will be works by local photographer Sim Chi Yin, and directors Zizi Azah Bte Abdul Majid, Ming Wong and many more.
