Everybody Loves Irene And Freelove To Play Crossborders In K.L.

By PC

Indonesian trip hop band, Everybody Loves Irene, will be playing at the upcoming Crossborders as part of their Malaysian Tour.

Everybody Loves Irene was born in 1998. It all started with a band named Gooton, consisting Yudhi Arfani (guitar), Dimas Anindityo (bass), and Mulyadi Triharsono (drum) when they were only in junior high school! All three grew to become friends in the same scene that popped up several britpops gigs, popular in Jakarta at that time. However, the band went without a permanent vocalist.

Sometime in 2001 the boys met Irene Yohanna, a girl with a remarkable voice. All the boys loved her vocals. Even more, everybody loves Irene! This in fact is the exact sentence that became the name of the band, Everybody Loves Irene. She soon became the main icon of the band.

With spare-backing tracks and emotional yet wrenching vocal, Everybody Loves Irene plays music for times when one is in need to chill out. It's a dance noir for those too world-weary to move.

This would make them an eclectic indie-pop band with lot of organic trip-hop influences that comprises elements of multi-layered electronica sounds. Everybody Loves Irene has garnered lunatic fans who come in full force at some gigs in Indonesia that they have participated in.

The event is also supported by Malaysian indie rock darlings, Freelove.

Free Love is hugely inspired by a number of American indie rock icons such as Sebadoh, Sonic Youth, Pavement, The Pixies, Bright Eyes, Modest Mouse, 764-Hero, Three Mile Pilot, The Preston School of Industry and many more.
