Notre Dame De Paris Coming To Singapore
By PC
The musical, Notre Dame de Paris, featuring principals from the original cast, will play to audiences of more than 4,000 each night at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in November 2006. Following sell-out performances in Korea and Taiwan, this will be the rock opera's debut in South East Asia, playing an extensive season that begins on 03 November 2006. Presented by show promoters NDPK Pte Ltd, this will also be the first show produced by this company in Singapore.
The show promoters predict that this unique interpretation of Victor Hugo's compelling story of love and betrayal will take Singapore by storm, breaking box office records as it has in every venue on its world tour. Since premiering at the Palais des Congres in Paris, France in September 1998, the musical has attracted audiences of more than 3 million in France alone. It has also been staged over 3000 times in 13 other countries, including Italy, Britain and the United States, receiving standing ovations every night. During last year's run in Korea, enthusiasts even set up their own national fan club, gathering to view the show's DVD and learn French!
Faithful to Victor Hugo's classic novel Notre Dame de Paris, the show tells the emotionally charged story of the unfortunate Bell Ringer, Quasimodo's hopeless devotion to the beautiful gypsy Esmeralda and her downfall at the hands of Frollo, the provost of the cathedral who falls victim to an overwhelming desire for this innocent free spirit.
Fitting the majestic setting of the Singapore Indoor Stadium, the show will also be presented on a grand scale. The modern impressionistic stage set features a 12 meter high 'climbing wall' representing the façade of the grand cathedral of Notre Dame as well as the famous Bastille prison in Paris. This amazing edifice is also the platform for a series of stunning acrobatic routines that will leave the audience breathless.
