Proof's Shooter Won't Do Jail Time For Weapons Charges
By Corey Moss (MTV.com)
The bouncer who fatally shot Proof in April was set free Thursday (October 26) in Detroit.
Wayne County Circuit Judge Vera Massey Jones sentenced 28-year-old Mario Etheridge to time served and a $2,000 fine after being convicted last month of carrying a concealed weapon and discharging a firearm in a dwelling or occupied structure, according to the Detroit Free Press.
Etheridge, who has been in jail since the April 11 incident at the CCC Club, faced a maximum penalty of five years in prison for the weapon possession and four years for the discharging. He had no prior record.
The bouncer shot Proof after the D12 rapper shot Etheridge's cousin, Keith Bender Jr., who died one week later. Etheridge was not tried for homicide because Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy opted not to pursue murder charges against him.
