Narnia Sequel Keeps Cast And Director, Shoots For 2007 Release

A sequel to one of 2005's top grossers, the Oscar-nominated blockbuster The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, will begin production later this year. The first film's cast, director and screenwriters have all signed on to return, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Walt Disney Pictures and Walden Media, the film's backers, are said to be exploring a Christmas 2007 release for The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian. That both companies would greenlight a follow-up to The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, which is in contention for Best Visual Effects, Best Makeup and Best Sound Mixing at the 78th annual Academy Awards, should come as little surprise. The movie has earned $638 million worldwide, making it Disney's highest-grossing live-action film release. Armageddon and Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl hold second and third place, respectively.
Director Andrew Adamson will once again helm the project, according to the trade publication. Adamson will also serve as one of the film's producers and co-writers, collaborating with Christopher Markus and Steve McFeeley on the movie's screenplay. The principal castmembers will be back to reprise their roles.
Caspian, the second installment in C.S. Lewis' masterful seven-book series, was first published in 1951. The movie, like the novel, will revolve once again around the four Pevensie siblings. The children revisit the land of Narnia, where 1,000 years has passed since they'd left, and are called on to aid Narnia's inhabitants once more -- this time by deposing of the evil King Miraz and his Queen Prunaprisma, who have taken control of the kingdom from the throne's rightful heir, Prince Caspian.
