By News Desk

Celebrate life this World AIDS Day as MTV Philippines, Smart Buddy and Addict Mobile Prepaid, together with the global Unite for Children, Unite Against AIDS campaign of the United Nations, and Frenzy Condoms, present the MTV Staying Alive Music Summit for HIV/AIDS 2005. The country's biggest concert for a cause is happening this December 1, Thursday, at the Fort Open Field, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig, Metro Manila. People are encouraged to come to the concert venue as early as 1 pm to visit the booths around the grounds to learn more about HIV and AIDS and join the various pre-show activities to win special prizes. The pre-show will begin at 4:30pm and the main show will begin at 7pm.

Over 30 performers and celebrity guests have pledged to join the MTV Staying Alive Music Summit for HIV/AIDS, which aims to send out key messages and create a greater awareness about the virus and the disease through the universal language of music. MiG Ayesa, the certified fan favorite from Rock Star:INXS, is headlining this year's concert. Ayesa shot to international stardom as one of the most popular finalists in the hit reality show, where 12 men and women vied for the chance to be the new lead singer of INXS, one of the world's most successful rock bands. Ayesa was born in Manila, but when he was 2 years old, his family moved to Sydney, Australia. Apart from achieving fame through Rock Star:INXS, he is also known for a stellar career in theater, having starred in major productions in Australia and London. He stopped by Manila recently en route to perform at the Philippine Advertising Congress in Cebu City. The MTV Music Summit will be his first big performance in Manila.

Apart from MiG Ayesa, the country's hottest and most popular artists and bands, including Bamboo, Barbie Almalbis, Christian Bautista, Cueshe, Giniling Festival, Greyhoundz, Hale, Imago, Itchyworms, Kitchie Nadal, Kamikazee, Kjwan, Mojofly, Moonstar 88, MYMP, Paramita, Parokya ni Edgar, Pupil, Radioactive Sago Project, Rivermaya, Sugarfree, Sarah Geronimo, Sandwich, Session Road, Stonefree, Up Dharma Down, Urbandub, Viva Hot Babes, Yasmien Kurdi, and 6cyclemind are confirmed to perform at the event.

Now on its third year, the MTV Music Summit has become the most awaited concert in the country. In 2003, the MTV Music Summit for AIDS rocked Manila with 23 live performances plus a special appearance by international pop singer Mandy Moore. Last year, the Music Summit featured a powerful lineup of rock and hip-hop acts, with performances by international artists Duncan Sheik, The Barbs, Jay Sean, and Joshua Payne.

The MTV Staying Alive Music Summit for HIV/AIDS is part of MTV's global Staying Alive campaign, which aims to empower the youth to protect themselves, fight stigma and discrimination, and engage businesses, media and organizations to form their own response to HIV/AIDS. This year, the MTV Staying Alive Music Summit for HIV/AIDS will also serve as the local launch event of the UNICEF and UNAIDS global campaign called Unite for Children, Unite Against AIDS. Over the past two years the UNICEF, UNAIDS and MTV partnership has launched the biggest public advocacy campaign on AIDS in the Philippines. The MTV Staying Alive Music Summit has provided a very high profile forum for dissemination of factual information for young people -- considered one of the largest vulnerable groups.
