Get Ready To Rumble At The 2005 MTV Pilipinas Video Music Awards

By News Desk

MTV: Music Television recently announced the nominees of the MTV Pilipinas 2005 Video Music Awards, the country's biggest and most anticipated music awards show. Rivermaya topped this year's list of nominees with three nods for their music video "You'll Be Safe Here," and one nomination for "Balisong." Following closely behind with three nominations each were Artstrong, for his video "Jazzy Monday," Kitchie Nadal, for "Huwag na Huwag Mong Sasabihin," Kjwan, for "Daliri," and Radioactive Sago Project, for "Astro."

Every year, the country's favorite music channel honors the best in Pinoy music video making at MTV Pilipinas, which is exclusively presented this year by Smart Buddy. Now on its fifth year, the awards show remains to be the Philippine music industry's most awaited night. With spectacular performances and a gathering of the hottest celebrities, the awards night, which is slated for Thursday, August 25, at the Araneta Coliseum, is guaranteed to be packed with the flair and fun that only the world's largest television network can bring.

At the MTV Pilipinas 2005 launch party held at Capone's Bistro last July 12, MTV VJs KC Montero, Marc Abaya, John Joe Joseph, Colby Miller, and Don Puno presented this year's MTV Pilipinas nominees and gave the audience a glimpse of what to expect from this year's awards season, as MTV plays up the competition with this year's theme: "A Night at the Boxing Ring."

"Every year, the MTV team takes a slice of Pinoy life, injects it with our own brand of fun, and then amplifies it to complete the entire experience of this exciting awards season," explains Jack Madrid, Managing Director of MTV Philippines. "This year's theme is particularly fitting because we recognize that these contenders are all considered OPM heavyweights. Their power to inspire the Filipino people through their music makes them our very own modern-day heroes."

Following last year's successful partnership, Smart Buddy has once again tied up with MTV to present this year's awards show. "Last year's MTV Pilipinas was an enormous success, and once again, we're excited to team up with MTV for this special event," says Smart Buddy Activations & Usage Marketing Head, Leni Solidum. "We look forward to continuing this tradition of paying tribute to the artists who continue to entertain us and enhance our lives with their music."

Last year, thousands of music fans got to watch the awards show live at the PSC Philsports Arena. The grand event featured explosive performances by Gary V and The Manoeuvers; The Late Isabel; Bellefire; Tata Young; Jay-R with Jimmy Muna; Nina; Sarah Geronimo with Guy Sebastian; Jimmy Bondoc, Paolo Santos, Nyoy Volante, with Barbie's Cradle; and Bamboo with The Makiling Ensemble and the Manila Philharmonic Orchestra. Bamboo emerged as the big winner of the night, taking home three awards for Favorite New Artist, Favorite Group, and Favorite Song.

Presenters and performers for this year's MTV Pilipinas awards night will be announced in the coming weeks.
