Nick Carter Arrested For Allegedly Driving Under The Influence
By Corey Moss (MTV.com)
Nick Carter was arrested in Southern California on Saturday for allegedly driving while under the influence.
The Backstreet Boys singer was stopped by police at about 7:30 pm in downtown Huntington Beach for violating a traffic law, Lieutenant Dave Bunetta said on Monday (March 7). The officers then conducted field sobriety tests and arrested the 25-year-old.
Carter was taken to the local police department, booked for investigation of DUI and had his vehicle impounded. He was released about four hours later with an agreement to appear in court within 45 days.
Because the investigation is still active, Bunetta could not release other details about the arrest or Carter's sobriety tests. "He was cooperative, and there was nothing unusual about his demeanor," Bunetta said.
A district attorney will determine within the next few weeks if there is enough evidence to file charges.
"Nick Carter deeply regrets the current situation," the singer's publicist said in a statement released Monday. "He is on doctor-prescribed medication and was unaware of its interaction possibilities."
The Backstreet Boys recently finished recording their first album in five years and will hit the road later this month to start promoting the music.
